Women Marines have a new online community all their own. Where The Difference Begins unites active duty Marines, reservists, retirees, veterans, poolees enrolled in the Delayed Entry Program (DEP) and other women who have an interest in the United States Marine Corps.
On 12 August 1918, the Secretary of the Navy granted authority to enroll women for clerical duty in the Marine Corps Reserve. The next day, Opha Mae Johnson enlisted and became the first official woman Marine. Although women account for only 6.4% of the total active duty end strength, they play an integral role in the defense of our country. We serve in 93% of all occupational specialties and 62% of all billets. Each year, approximately 2,400 women accept the challenge and eagerly take their place on the yellow footprints at Parris Island, SC.
We endeavor to be a leading military heritage community that seeks to:
-
reunite old comrades and foster long-lasting relationships.
-
build camaraderie.
-
be a source of information, guidance and support.
-
inspire women who desire to become a Marine.
-
and above all else, preserve the legacy of the United States Woman Marine.
WTDB recognizes the service and sacrifice of past, present and future women Marines and we want to provide a platform from which to tell your story and much, much more. Join us on our journey to Where The Difference Begins.
